But what\u2019s the real deal with discounts, and what kinds of tricks and gimmicks do retailers try to sell as much merchandise as possible?\tThe most common times for bargain shopping are after the Christmas holidays and after the summer season. \tIt\u2019s not uncommon for a discount to be nothing more than a gimmick or a lure, even though the new price doesn\u2019t differ significantly from the original one. It\u2019s not unusual for the original price to be lower than the new, discounted price. If you have your eye on a specific item and know from the start how much it costs, you\u2019ll be able to tell whether there\u2019s actually been a discount or not. You could end up saving as much as half the original price. It\u2019s easier online, after all\u2014you can compare prices across different stores in just a few moments. \tAnother common enticement is a special price when buying two or more items, where the second item is 50% off or completely free. If you\u2019re not sure how the discount actually works, don\u2019t hesitate to ask the staff; otherwise, you might be in for an unpleasant surprise when paying at the register. The same applies if you have a coupon, where, for example, you receive a 200 CZK discount on purchases over 700 CZK; these are usually time-limited offers, which is, of course, noted in small print at the bottom of the coupon. Be cautious also because sometimes cheaper items are sold at a bargain price because they have some defect or flaw.\t\tDon\u2019t assume that everything the store offers can be bought cheaper; sometimes the discount applies only to items that aren\u2019t in high demand or aren\u2019t of the highest quality.
